Inspired by Dora Creek and the surrounding Lake Macquarie area near my home, I have been documenting the local environment for over twenty years. As a keen bushwalker, bird watcher and photographer I enjoy exploring the creek and its surrounding bushland and am passionate about its preservation at a time of ever increasing urban encroachment.
I am intrigued by linear motifs in nature along with the colours and moods created by seasonal variations in the weather; in the ever changing patterns created by the movement of water, reflections from overhanging scrub and trees that line the banks and the abstract quality of grasses and branches, leaf and bark litter and tangled undergrowth. My focus is on expressing connection to place.
My work has its roots in the quilt making tradition of stitched and layered textiles.
Techniques encompass drawing, mono printing, discharge, painting, and screen printing. I extensively stitch/quilts my work to create an overall textured surface.
I have maintained a studio practice for forty years; and have been involved in the quilt/textile community as a teacher, author, lecturer, exhibition organiser, juror and judge; have exhibited and been published widely both in Australia and internationally and have won numerous awards. My quilts are held in public and private collections here and overseas.
