ebb and flow

ebb and flow, website grid

Once again the artists of untethered fibre artists group have challenged themselves to navigate pre-conceived creative boundaries in order to explore new understandings and interpretations of a familiar concept. The result is a vibrant exhibition filled with works that challenge us to reconsider countless aspects of our lives and the world around us.

I have been privileged to view the group’s journey over the last year, and have been impressed by their collective dedication to challenge themselves and grow artistically -pushing out of the known, to create works that take their considerable talents, strip them back to start anew, and venture into territory that can be both frightening and exhilarating.

Fibre of course is the common element in ebb and flow, but uncommon in its use.

Subjects range from quiet, unassuming domestic stories to migration tableaus, equally powerful in their interpretation. The cycles of life and historic shifts are explored through references to natural elements of the sea and the bush, but memory and recollection are equally at play, with poignant glimpses of jarring life events, not lessened in their intensity through thread and stitch.

ebb and flow asks us to explore, delve into and contemplate the intricacies of life.
We will be the richer for it.
