I have a lifelong passion for threads and textiles, commencing from when I played on my mother’s sewing room floor when I was still in primary school. I have never missed an opportunity to learn more about techniques and textiles, learning to knit at 4, crochet at 8 and use an electric sewing machine when I was only 11 years old.
I have travelled extensively, analyzing the various ways people from developing countries as well as areas where the latest technology is used, manipulate and colour textiles. I am fascinated by the way textiles and threads from 5,000BC to the present time, have been processed. Combined with the long list of residential and non-residential classes, apprenticeship to a master weaver and research, my techniques influence my designs for both wearables and gallery pieces.
I apply these techniques to my practice and rely on my imagination, memories and photos to design my artwork.
I really enjoy the opportunity to pass on all my extensive study by way of writing and teaching and am currently in contact with textile artists, museum personnel, and fellow researchers all over the world.
Teaching gives me as much pleasure as creating a work.
